The West Michigan Ferret Connection was established in October 2001. I have been able to re-home an average of 50 ferrets per year. Proper care and keeping my ferrets happy, takes a lot of time and resources. All help is greatly appreciated!
Once you’ve made sure a fuzzy is the right pet for you, why not adopt a ferret instead of getting one at a pet store.
There are several benefits. 9 of the most important ones are:
Shelter personnel have determined a ferret’s personality so there are no surprises when you get a ferret home. Some are jumpers. Some are climbers. Some like to nibble. Some like feet, with socks or without. All ferrets are diggers … get use to it. Ferrets are litter trained …. sometimes they choose not to. You’ll know beforehand what you can expect.
A shelter can help you choose a ferret that fits your lifestyle and expectations because every ferret has its own personality, just like any other living being. This is also good to know if you’re adding him to a family of other pets.
The majority of shelter ferrets are adults and are fully grown. Females are considerably smaller than males; however, even ferrets from the same gender can differ significantly in size and weight.
Ferrets come in different colors and patterns. If you want to know exactly what your fuzzie will look like you can adopt a ferret that has his adult color and pattern. Now, with that said, some ferrets may change color slightly after a seasonal shed.
Adopting a ferret from a shelter is cheaper than getting one at a store. The ferret(s) have received all the necessary vaccinations and veterinary treatment needed.
The West Michigan Ferret Connection offers a 14 day return policy.
Knowing you’ve given a ferret a “forever home” will surely give you warm, fuzzy feelings for years to come.
The people at the shelter can provide you with valuable tips and advice. They care for ferrets 24/7 so they know what they’re talking about.
A ferret shelter is run by people with big hearts who spend a huge amount of their own money on taking care of the ferrets. The West Michigan Ferret Connection is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We receive no government funding and are heavily reliant on tax-deductible gifts from private and corporate donors to continue our work. When you adopt a ferret from a shelter, the adoption fee is used to pay for vet bills, food, toys, bedding.
The West Michigan Ferret Connection often receives offers from people wanting to foster. Generally, all they want is a free ferret. I can’t do that.
Hospice parents give 24/7 care to those ferrets which have health or behavioral issues making them unsuitable for placement. Our hospice parents give quality time , transportation to vets, sometimes even cover medical expenses beyond the shelters capabilities. They are all appreciated and should be highly commended for their service.

The WMFC has 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, which makes any charitable donation to the shelter tax deductible. Donations can be made through Paypal for your convenience. Thank You from us and our fuzzy friends!
